Site Suitability & Design Notes

Where full building consent plans have not been supplied, the client is to confirm all design parameters, so confirm your site’s wind, snow and ground conditions with our team before ordering. Bracing is designed for IBS RigidRAP-XT sheet bracing to the walls and strap bracing to the roof; the bracing products themselves are supplied by others, and alternative bracing products require specific engineering design at additional cost.

The skillion roof has a low pitch of about 3°, so it needs a trapezoid corrugated roofing profile rather than a standard corrugated profile; our team will guide you to the right roofing option when you enquire. This kitset supplies the steel structure of a garage only. Whether your project needs building consent depends on your site and council, so check with your local council before you build. All opening sizes on the plans are frame opening sizes, and there is no allowance for architectural design or detailing.

Construction Plans

The construction plans for the GA-5.4×5.9-B garage steel frame kitset show the wall and roof frame layouts, openings and dimensions, so you can check the frame against your site before you order. They are for the standard kitset and are not site-specific; building consent documentation is available through our design team on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size is the GA-5.4×5.9-B garage kitset?

The GA-5.4×5.9-B measures 5.4m wide by 5.9m long, with 30m² inside the frame — room for a vehicle plus storage, or a compact workshop. Stud heights run from 2420mm to 2720mm under a 3.2° skillion roof.

What roofing does the skillion roof need?

The roof pitch is only about 3°, which is below the minimum for standard corrugated roofing, so it needs a trapezoid corrugated profile. Our team can talk you through the options when you enquire.

What’s included in the kit?

The kit includes 7 wall frames, 11 webbed rafters, roof-to-wall brackets, a site kit of ancillaries (driver bits, gloves, grommets and assembly screws) and construction plans. The garage door, doors, windows, cladding, roofing and foundations are not included — see the What’s Included table above.

How wide is the garage door opening?

The framed opening is 3300mm wide by 2150mm high, with a 300mm Type C lintel and 4 jamb studs, ready for your garage door. There is also a 915mm by 2150mm door opening and a 1220mm by 920mm window opening. The doors and window themselves are supplied by others.

What wind and snow loads is it designed for?

The design is suitable up to Extra High wind zone and snow loads of 1.5kPa, with IBS RigidRAP-XT sheet bracing to the walls and strap bracing to the roof designed in. Confirm your site conditions with our team before ordering.

Do I need building consent for this garage?

Most councils require building consent for a structure of this size, but it depends on your site and council. Our in-house design team can prepare building consent documentation on request.

How is the frame delivered?

Frames are made in Waimate and delivered free to your nearest Booths Logistics freight depot as a flat bundle pack, or collected from the factory. Pre-assembled frames, ready to stand with frame-to-frame fixings, are available at an additional freight cost.
