Manufacturing and Delivery with Steel Frame Manufacturing Ltd

At Steel Frame Manufacturing Ltd, some of the most crucial aspects of our operations include ensuring your frames are precisely built, installed, and delivered in a timely manner. Our production team is based in Waimate, South Canterbury, and they put in a lot of effort to make sure your framing is exact and delivered on site as soon as possible. Whether you’re looking for a small back-garden shed, or larger residential house framing, SFML can design to meet your requirements.

The manufacturing process begins once our team of steel frame detailers complete a take-off of your proposed plans, ensuring they meet New Zealand building codes and structural engineering specifications. Our detailers can also adapt and adjust your timber frame drawings to meet Steel framing requirements. These plans are sent as panel drawings to our factory team and categorised into wall, roof, truss and support profiles. These drawings are then loaded into our computer controlled Howick cold-form steel framing machine, which begins unwinding a coil of steel through a series of rollers, progressively shaping it into the desired profile. Once the steel has been shaped, it is then punched with holes for electrical or plumbing installations or for service and fastening requisites. It is then labelled and cut to specific lengths using a shear mechanism.

Once the steel has been formed, cut, punched and marked according to its drawings, our labourers begin assembling each profile by screwing fasteners into the dimple holes punched by our machine. The framing members come together almost like a puzzle, until they create one finished wall or component of your project. This process is repeated until all members of your framing have been fully manufactured and assembled, ready to be delivered atop one of our framing trailers. We can also offer flat-pack delivery, providing efficiency for long distance deliveries to your nominated site with pricing and timeframes dependent upon the size and weight of your project.

For North Island deliveries we primarily utilise Mainfreight as our transport partner, and for the South Island we use our own drivers with trailer loads depending on distance. This takes on average between two to five days, and comes with a pre-assembled site kit with screws, fastenings, safety gloves and related ancillaries included. This whole process, including manufacture, assembly and delivery takes approximately two weeks on average, allowing you to get your project moving quickly.
